Some of Our Significant Projects

Project "Shine"

Objectives:

The main objective of the project is to provide electricity to un-electrified households, reduce electricity bills, and save the environment.

Advantages of solar-powered lighting systems:

Achievement:

100 domestic solar systems have been installed in the project area.

Project "Vision"

Objectives:

Correcting people’s vision with eyeglasses advances socioeconomic development.

Scope:

In rural India, several hundred million people need glasses to see properly, but low incomes and the difficulty of accessing prescriptions prevent them from doing so. People live with poor vision unnecessarily because they do not yet have eyeglasses. These people require corrective lenses so strongly that they are classified as visually impaired or blind without glasses, and some of those with poor vision live in our project area, Mahlan. This is today’s world; it does not have to be tomorrow’s. Without glasses, children with poor vision are at a major disadvantage in school because 80% of all learning occurs through vision. Today, a pair of eyeglasses could correct the poor vision of children. Myopia, or shortsightedness, is commonly diagnosed at 8 to 12 years of age. If current trends continue, an estimated half of the world’s population will have myopia by 2050. Research shows that correcting myopia and poor vision with properly prescribed glasses results in a greater impact on academic performance than any other health intervention. In addition, correcting vision has the potential to improve learning environments for all children in the classroom and decrease non-completion rates due to underperformance. Therefore, providing glasses for school-age children and poor people will have a high impact on their educational and economic development.

Outcome:

Project "Organic Agriculture'

The rationale for the project is:

Sustainable organic agriculture is a system of farming using local resources and skills to build long-term soil fertility, safe food, and nutritional security, as well as protect natural ecosystems. This project falls under our mission, which is to promote sustainable development initiatives among the poor small-scale farmers in the Central region through participatory practices. This project approach proposes to use farm resource management for soil fertility building and designed family gardening. It will impart knowledge and skills to the participating target beneficiaries, singling out composting and growing their food in family units as the means to achieving its goal. Using compost in the family kitchen gardens relates to the two best practices. It also calls for a careful integration of farm resources and enterprises, encourages reuse and recycling, and thus diversifies the output and benefits.
